Our Alaskan Malamutes: Rainbow Bridge
I am not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the hard ground.
So it is, and so it will be, for so it has been, time out of mind:
Into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely. Crowned
With lilies and with laurel they go; but I am not resigned.

U-CD Jilly, CD, CGC, RN
May 24, 1996-April 2, 2011
Jilly achieved every dream I had for her when we began training in obedience... and THEN some! She was a wonderful obedience performer and a first-rate companion. Unfortunately, though she was fully trained through open, I was never able to advance to open competition with her because she tore both ACLs. She passed one month short of her 15th birthday.
Jilly's accomplishments in obedience include:
AKC
Finished her AKC novice title with an average score of 194.7
Top-scoring obedience Malamute in the U.S. in 1999 (MQ)
AMCA's 1999 "Blackhawk Memorial Award" Winner
1999 AMCA National Specialty High in Trial Winner
Highest Scoring Working Dog in Trial in all-breed competition
Of her six AKC scores, ALL were in the 190s, including two 195.5s and two 196.5s
Won her class five of the six times she was shown
Finished her CD with three straight first place wins
Earned her Rally Novice title at age 10, with two perfect scores of 100, and two class wins
UKC
Finished UKC novice title in one weekend with class placements with all three scores.
Won a 3-way runoff with a top agility Australian shepherd and an AKC UDX-titled Border terrier for first place at her final UKC trial.
Other
Highest score in traditional obedience in competition: 199
Ch. Totem's Fur-Nando d'Azul
April 6, 2004-September 30, 2009
Ch. GRA-Wind's Kaviak Freeze Frame x Ch. Totem's This Magic Moment
Traveler finished his championship with four Best of Breed wins over specials and a Group placement from the classes. In a single litter, he is the sire of an AKC all-breed Best in Show-winning son who is also a specialty and Eukanuba Award of Excellence winner.
Unbeknownst to me, Traveler ate a string one day, and it decimated his small intestine. He left me too soon. I will never forget him: a beautiful champion and wonderful companion. I'll see you at the rainbow bridge, my friend. Bred and also loved by Jeanne Beroza, Totem Kennels.
Ch. Totem's Black Hills Hotshot
April 6, 2004-October 18, 2011
Ch. GRA-Wind's Kaviak Freeze Frame x Ch. Totem's This Magic Moment
Beautiful Hotshot was a trained sled dog, a wilderness search and rescue dog, and a multiple group placer. He was only shown one weekend in his short career as a special, and he earned group placements both days. I lost him just a few days later. He never let me know he was sick until the very end.
Hotshot was one of the most wonderful dogs I ever had the privilege to own, in both physical beauty and temperament. I only had him for 8 months, and his sudden illness and death from cancer devastated me. I miss him and I'm very proud of his many accomplishments. Bred and also loved by Jeanne Beroza, Totem Kennels, who owned him for most of his life and was responsible for most of his achievements.
